Re: 18/11/19

Off the slopes early as whited out. Time to try DA via iPad.

All agreed but wondered about 13dn. Wasted and chicanery could both be anaginds and absolutely could simply be ALL. Not quite clear.

I’ll look in again next week!

Re: DA 11/1/19

I leave the blog for ONE week and what happens . . . . lol.

I did a lot of it but wouldn't have been able to post anything. Seemed okay.

DA 11,18,25/01/19

Alas, I will be unable to post the next three weeks. Will be too busy next week and then OS for the following two.
Any guests who'd like to pass an opinion, please do so. Even in summary.

Adios amoebas. Until Feb 1.

DA 04/01/19

For me, it was a slowish start. 10ac was in quickly but I then had to do a bit of reading to get a second. The first six or so gradually revealed themselves then it was a snow-balling finish. One or two I'm still not completely convinced by. ACROSS 1) BUMPER STICKER : Sp(stumper, bicker) : vague defi...

DA 28/12/18

The last DA for 2018. A rubric appears. Will it be a Xmas theme ? A NY theme ? A Sydney to Hobart theme ? Nah. Just a theme that barely appears on my radar. I knew 6 of the 8 theme answers but couldn't tell you too much more than some BIG hits. Anyway, if you like 'both kinds or music, country AND w...

DA 21/12/18

Same thing as last week. Had work all morning so had to hope it wasn't a stinker when I got to it. It wasn't. There were a few look-ups at 7- and 8dn but everything else was pretty straightforward. ACROSS 1) BIGOTED : bi(p/got)ed : almost didn't need the sec-inds. 5) RALLIED : ddef : a good, decepti...

DA 14/12/18

I was a little busy this morning. Thankfully the puzzle today wasn't that hard. I did a bit while stopped at traffic lights and then polished it off when I got home. No single clue caused much grief. ACROSS 1,27) LICORICE ALLSORTS : (literal, colors, sic)* 5) OSTEAL : -os-,teal : slightly disturbing s...

DA 07/12/18

The rubric was a little vague so one had to just plough ahead and note any clues that didn't quite make sense (or more so than usual). 9- and 10-ac didn't quite add up but 15-dn gave it away for sure. A (4,5) answer for back-breaker with only LAST being clued meant that STRAW was lost, or had to be ...

DA 30/11/18

Bit of a mixed bag of elements today. A couple of dodgy devices but nothing upsetting. ACROSS 1) RECEDE : (c-eered)* 4) see 27ac 10) CRAPSHOOT : crap, shoot : 'crap!' as an interjection. Apparently crap is 2, 3 or 12 in a dice game. 11) CLIMB : -c,-l,-i,-m,-b 12) SMOOTH OPERATOR : s(moot,hoper)at,-or...

Re: DA 23/11/18

Being in bad light at the airport, I read XI as XL. Much easier when XI.
