DA 20/04/18

I thought all the long answers might be some theme but it seems not. I started in the NW, got a long answer, then it pretty much flowed out from there. No real problem areas. ACROSS 1) FREAKED : f(re)aked 5) see 15dn 9) ROAD MOVIE : (avoid, more)* 10) ON CUE : onc(u)e 11) LISBON : (b--lions)* : I'm n...

Re: DA 13/04/18

Af,
re Catwoman, I think so.
re SF, agree. Not great.
re Honda, 'on DA' equates to 'allow DA to pay for that', so if something is 'on DA', he'd say 'my treat'.

DA 13/04/18

Not much reaction having finished this. I can't say anything really upset me. There were no stand-out clues. Let me see . . . ACROSS 1) IMPOST : I,m,post : I don't know what 'making' does. Just for surface methinks. 4) CATWOMAN : ca(i/two)man 10) PORT FAIRY : port, fairy : sounds familiar, didn't bot...

DA 06/04/18

Well, I'm glad THAT got cleared up. Having decided I'd work around 19ac etc, one of my early answers was 32ac CD DISC and I thought 'that's a bit rank'. Then 2dn seemed to create a pattern and from there the theme was evident. ACROSS 1) INCISE : -i,-n,-c,-i,s---e 4) MONA LISA : ---monal I sa- 10) BR...

DA 30/03/18

Not as good as previous weeks basically. I have yet to parse two elements but I hope they become clear as I write. ACROSS 1) FEATHERWEIGHT : feat,(grew, hit,he)* : 'devised' ? Surely a better indicator was out there. 10) THREE : th(re)e 11) EMILE ZOLA : (male, lie)*<>(oz<) : the first bit works well a...

Re: DA 23/03/18

A,
because February can be 28 or 29 days, yes ?

And lots of abbreviations are clued similarly to Feb. Often enough, 'doctor' clues GP etc.

Re: DA 23/03/18

I did half of this early this morning and then the rest as opportunity allowed. It seemed quite easy to start with then a few slower ones happened before I looked at 23ac for 5 minutes, knowing the answer but trying to parse it. We'll see how it feels now that I am revisiting it all. ACROSS 1) SEMIF...

DA 23/03/18

I will be away from computer access tomorrow morning, so probably won't get to post until mid-afternoon maybe.
If you can't wait that long, someone can put up some explanations.

DA 16/03/18

I think this could be a pretty favourable score today. On reflection, post-solve, there seemed to be a lot more plusses than minuses. And there was one particular item that I always thought would be good in a puzzle but I had yet to see (and/or recall) until today. ACROSS 1) MEDEVAC : caved,---em---...
