Re: DH 05/02/19

I agree those anagram clues are appalling, in addition to the excessive number.

From afar, can I assume that Alec had an additional "r" in his surname? At least that issue provided some interest.

Re: Can anyone parse this clue?

Hmm! Not knowing anything about the compiler, I can only guess.
I see that the SOED does show knight errant as being equivalent to just errant.
Also, lives could be a noun.
Is this an iffy attempt calling lives on a mission as errant lives, referring to knights errant?

Otherwise, no idea.

Re: Grids: Fair and unfair (2)

Checked and Unchecked

Entries have closed for the November Slot 6 "Checked versus Unchecked" and the Slot 7 "Unchecked versus Checked". Submitted comments make it clear that quite a few members are unaware of this specific terminology with regards to crossword puzzles. The Chambers dictionary actually defines: checked sq...

AFL Grand Final

Thank you to those members of the ACC who have passed on their condolences following the painful AFL Grand Final. Congratulations to President Patrick and his Richmond Tigers. No, I won't do anything drastic, but I have run out of antidepressants. No comments are needed regarding one particular fore...

Re: DH 12/09/2017

If those three 'gems' are typical, I am pleased I do not have access.
Perhaps the question mark in the third of them is meant to be an apology for the appalling grammar.

Re: Appropriate or not in CrOZworld?

Ian, I would have no qualms if a clue like the following appeared in CrOZworld:

More extreme is to let off that female! (7)

Answer: FARTHER.

Crowsman.

True cryptic?

In the July CrOZworld, President Patrick made a plea for us to discuss relevant topics on this bulletin board. Hence, I will open an issue that has been bugging me.The late Noel Jessop (Jesso) is a doyen of Australian cryptic crossword compiling, influencing many of us who are amateurs in comparison...

Re: May Slot 7 Eightsome Reels

Sorry! I must admit I did not think of that. Getting old!

But at least it seems I got it correct anyway.

Re: May Slot 7 Eightsome Reels

OK, I'll comment on each of them, without knowing if my submitted answers are correct or not. For 4, I tossed up for a long while between TYPIFIER and OVERTYPE, both of which fitted, but neither seemed quite satisfactory. My problem was that I was interpreting "keyboard's top row" as that row with a...
